Keeping with the Christmassy theme, here's the "quote of the day" from my daily NY Times headline e-mail:
"It doesn't crumb, and I don't like fragments of our Lord scattering all over the floor."
-THE REV. BOB DIETEL, about communion wafers manufactured by the Cavenaugh Company in Greenville, R.I.
Classy analysis. :-)
EDIT: The article is truly fascinating. You wouldn't believe how many varieties of wafer they make!!
Using wafers at communion drives me nuts. What's the point of symbolizing the breaking of a body when you sterilize it into tiny perfectly circular bits? You can always tell the people who don't think they deserve any, or don't want to hog the holiness, because they take the tiniest bit of bread possible and then it all crumbles in the juice/wine and hardly make it to their mouth.
Always something to be entertained by during services...
